The Big Thompson Canyon is an excellent place to fish due to the extensive number of consistent drainages it connects and the Alva B. Adams Tunnel, which aids flow to the river. Riffles, runs, pools, undercut banks, and backwaters provide endless varieties of water for great trout fishing. Hit the upper Big Thompson to get a snag at greenbacks and rainbows. They are not as plentiful as trout, but are found in the water. Food is plentiful for rainbow and brown trout at the lower Big Thompson making it a great spot for snagging a big one.

A 4-mile paved trail boarders the lake allowing access to great fishing off the shore. There are activities for the non-anglers in the family. The trail is great for biking, walking, and skating.
